Originally recorded for producer Norman Granz, King of the Tenors is the result of two sessions, both of which feature Ben Webster along with musicians which were part of Jazz at the Philharmonic at that time. While one of the sessions has Webster sharing the front line with Benny Carter and Harry “Sweets” Edison, the other presents Webster as the sole horn with the rhythm section of piano, guitar, bass and drums.
