The full dramatic intensity of Puccini’s masterpiece Tosca unfolds in this extraordinary concert recording – without any sets or costumes. The top-class cast is led by star tenor Jonathan Tetelman and soprano Eleonora Buratto (“the Tosca of our dreams” – Giornale della musica) as the star-crossed lovers, and baritone Ludovic Tézier as the fearsome police chief Scarpia (“His Scarpia remains a tyrant, but with dark charm and ironic wit” – Bachtrack).

On the conductor’s podium, Daniel Harding makes his debut as the new head of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia orchestra, bringing Puccini’s music to life in all its facets. Every vocal nuance, every orchestral nuance, is brought out with extraordinary clarity. The action takes place entirely in Rome during Napoleon’s time. It is “the ultimate Roman opera,” says Harding. Tetelman adds: “Singing Cavaradossi in Rome with this wonderful orchestra is the greatest thing for me.”

This recording, marking the 125th anniversary of the opera’s premiere, also honors the memory of Puccini, who died 100 years ago.
