An essential figure in the fusion between jazz and bossa nova, pianist and composer Sérgio Mendes (1941-2024) recorded over 55 releases under his own name. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2012 for “Real in Rio” from the animated film Rio. This release presents the complete original album Bossa Nova York, recorded in the United States. It features Mendes’ trio along with his mentor Antônio Carlos Jobim on guitar, and American jazz players Art Farmer, Phil Woods, and Hubert Laws.
