“Emperor Of Sand” is the name of Mastodon’s new, now seventh studio album. The concept behind the record is the story of a desert runner who has been handed his death sentence.

The themes of death, survival and time run through all eleven songs on “Emperor Of Sand”. Musically, the progressive metallers from Atlanta remain true to themselves. The quartet already presented a first taste at the beginning of 2017 with the two songs “Sultan’s Curse” and “Show Yourself”.

Troy Sanders (electric bass, vocals), Brent Hinds (guitar, vocals), Bill Kelliher (guitar) and Brann Dailor (drums, vocals) recorded “Emperor Of Sand” at The Quarry Recording Studio in Kennesaw, Georgia, and it was mixed at Hesons Recording Studios in Los Angeles. The band worked closely with producer Brendan O’Brien (Pearl Jam, AC/DC, Korn, Bob Dylan), who was already behind the controls on the 2009 album “Crack the Skye”.
