Frank Zappa – Zoot Allures – Vinyl LP

If you’re a fan of Frank Zappa as a guitarist, ‘Zoot Allures’ is one of his more interesting albums. Only the great, dark ‘The Torture Never Stops’ – one of Zappa’s best songs – contains more grooves and guitar antics than the average contemporary rock album. Not to mention the insane lead guitar work on ‘Black Napkins’. The album is characterized by solid guitar work, although the doo-wop-like ‘Find Her Finer’ and the sultry title track are small moments of rest, which makes the rest very bearable. The hilarious lyrics are also good, although Zappa comes across as remarkably sharp and satirical on ‘Wind Up Workin’ In A Gas Station’, for example.
