“A Slice Of The Top” is considered one of Hank Mobley’s most fascinating recordings. For the album in 1966, the tenor saxophonist had four of his own compositions and a standard by Duke Pearson arranged for a top-class octet in the style of “Birth Of The Cool”. And similar to the famous Miles Davis classic, “A Slice Of The Top” was not released for the first time until many years after it was recorded and is now considered an absolute masterpiece.
