“Stan Getz and the Oscar Peterson Trio”, published by Verve Records in 1958, documents the rare encounter of two opposing but complementary jazz greats: the relaxed tenor saxophonist Stan Getz and the fulminantly swinging, drum-free trio of Oscar Peterson. While the Oscar Peterson Trio was used to playing with various guest soloists from his “Jazz at the Philharmonic” performances, this situation was not commonplace for the tenor saxophonist. However, he mastered them with flying colors. A highlight of the album is a ten-minute ballad medley of no less than five well-known balladesque jazz standards.
